Girls Ministry

ideas, dreams, personal stories, & events from one youth ministry to another.

Second Sunday

Second Sunday's have been the most fun and they are definitely something I think other ministries might want to implement! Here's a little bit about it!

WHEN?

Second Sunday is an event we put on the second Sunday of every month. It happens right after our last service on Sunday afternoon (12:30) & goes until about mid-afternoon (2-3 PM).

WHY?

Second Sunday was created with Small Group Leaders and parents in mind. Even though the event is technically for students. We put on Second Sunday every month to provide a space where our volunteers can hang out with their students, and parents can get to know our staff, all while having the most fun!

WHAT
& WHERE?

The location for every Second Sunday changes. Our goal is to always have something fresh and fun so the students actually want to come! Some Second Sunday's include: roller skating, bowling, Christmas Party, ice skating, going to the local arcade, going to the movies, laser tag, and more!

Self Care

I contemplated putting this under the "Ministry" tab, but I 1.) thought it was very important 2.) figured it was vital for someone in ministry. Let's address the first thing you might be thinking... NO, SELF CARE IS NOT SELFISH. In fact, if you want your ministry to succeed, and if you want to be a great leader -- this is a key component to your underlying success in ministry.
Now, when I say "self care", it's very easy to think of a SPA day or a day of Netflix-ing. Although these things might be wonderful and fun (and sometime expensive), self care is different than just being lazy. Self care involves something(s) you do to take care of your mind, body, and spirit. As someone who struggles with giving herself non-lazy, self-care, I comprised a quick list of things you can (and should) do when you're looking for quick, easy, and *affordable* ways to self-care on the daily... or at least weekly.

1. Get yourself a nice water bottle & start drinking more water on the daily (you will thank yourself)
2. Put your phone on "Do Not Disturb", & in the other room for a whole day
3. Go workout, & if you don't want to do that, at least go outside & walk your dog 30 minutes more than you usually do
4. Take an hour to declutter an area of your house/life that's been stressing you out! You have no idea how much you'll love yourself afterwards!
5. Listen to a podcast (one where you learn something!)

6. Set a timer & read for 1 hour straight
7. Meal prep/plan for the rest of the week
8. TREAT YOSELF! This doesn't have to cost five hundred dollars. Maybe it's getting your nails done. Perhaps you haven't had Starbucks in a while. Maybe you've been dying to get a new pair of pants. Now is your time to shine!
9. Play with your kids, or spend extra intentional time with your spouse
10. & my personal favorite... go to bed early! So you get anywhere from 8-12 hours of sleep!
